Well, At Least This Trial Will Be More Entertaining Than "U.S. Marshals"

From the NYT today:
From 1999 to 2004, the actor Wesley Snipes earned $38 million appearing in more than half a dozen movies, including two sequels to his popular vampire thriller “Blade.”

The taxes he paid in the same period? Zero.

But unlike other celebrities who find themselves on the wrong side of the Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Snipes has a flamboyant explanation: he argues that he is not actually required to pay taxes.

Mr. Snipes, who is scheduled to go on trial Monday in Ocala, Fla., has become an unlikely public face for the antitax movement, whose members maintain that Americans are not obligated to pay income taxes and that the government extracts taxes from its citizens illegally.

Wait, there's more.

His involvement with the tax resistance movement may stem from his association with the Nuwaubians, a quasi-religious sect of black Americans who promote antigovernment theories and who set up a headquarters in Georgia in the early 1990s.

In 2000, Mr. Snipes sought a federal permit for a military training compound on land next to the Nuwaubian camp; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms rejected the request.

By the way, if you're wondering why I'm not blogging about the bomb blast in Karachi or the fact that the Rangers are now guarding wheat supplies, it's because I have nothing left to say. Honestly. I know it's the easy thing to do, and that it's all-too convenient for people like me sitting from afar, but I can't follow this shit anymore. I know for a fact people who know more about Anna Nicole Smith than Angela Merkel live a happier life. Well, I'm going to try their way now. I need a break from reality.

Here's a compromise -- write about Britney Spears' Pakistani boyfriend.

Did you ever watch that Simpson's episode where it's discovered that Homer has a crayon stuck in his brain? Well, they removed the crayon and all of a sudden Homer turns into this intellectual and starts complaining to Lisa about how depressed he is. And Lisa goes, 'as intelligence goes up, happiness goes down... look I drew a chart!' (Or something like that.) Well, Homer can't handle it and decides he was happier stupid and goes to Moe and gets the crayon hammered through his nose and into his brain... he ends up all happy and stupid.

Now I'm not saying I'm intelligent or whatever but... I agree that ignorance is bliss. And I sometimes wish I could hammer a crayon up my nose to make things seem brighter. I mean why not?

Just felt like talking.
