Breaking News: When Considered Dispassionately, Asif Zardari's Performance Has Been Nothing Short Of Phenomenal

Many thanks to Rishad for sending me this piece, probably my favorite article in at least six months. If there's one thing you should read today, it's this. I promise you that you won't regret it. By the way, the heading of this post is a direct quote from the piece. There, I knew that would convince you to click.

"On the domestic political front he has set the bar impossibly high for anyone to follow."

Does he refer to the bar of mediocrity?

"They had thrived and lived upon the reflected glory of Benazir, and were beholden to her for every part of her largesse, which she was generous with, but very careful in controlling the dispensation thereof."

I had to read this twice to realize that the author had actually not included Zardari as one of the people who had/have thrived and lived upon Benazir's glory and largesse.

man, you just ruined my week by posting this. now i'm sitting there debating in my head....create a body that oversees crap like this and ensures responsible fact based writing...nah, people have the right to their opinion however bizarre it may seem to you. or surely this guy's a paid hack...nah, maybe i'm just scarred by zardaris thungs robbing every house on my street, maybe this guy has some valid points. etc etc

My favourite bit was actually
"He has succeeded beyond the wildest expectations of the party workers, as the most successful leader of the PPP including his late wife."
WHAT ABOUT ZAB?!?

I thought the guy was being tongue in cheek and sarcastic. The part about Zardari boning up on politics in jail cannot be made with a straight face. His earlier articles should obviously settle that.

I'm not sure which is more frightening, Zardari is a political genius, or there are political analysts that actually believe he is one.

Kalsoom said...

This line was my fave: "Asif Zardari moved quickly - first to establish his credentials. This he did by appointing his son as chairman and himself as co-chairman."

Yes, establishing Bilawal as chairman really helped his credentials.

(Will I get 14 years in prison for writing this comment?)

I see everyone has a different favorite part from the piece. I must confess that the heading of my post is probably my favorite. Kalsoom's nomination runs a close second in my view.

What is more is that he has addressed the joint session not once but twice to a rapt audience (. . .) [n]o images of a sweating unnerved general president

I think my favorite part is that one of his highest successes has been not being too sweaty.

Do you think it's possible this writer is merely trying to develop some sort of "The Onion" for Pakistani media? Pyaaz? Sounds good to me.

Ayazuddin is just continuing in the footsteps of his forefathers by kissing the ass of whoever's in power.

most frightening; the writer has a couple of valid points.
zardari and naek both being elected unopposed being one.
a pliant CEC being another.

my bad... i just remembered, zardari wasn't unopposed in the presidential election.
