Video Of The Day

Apologies for the lack of posting recently, but I've been super busy. I'm also trying to get as much of my writing done for this week before the Champions Trophy, so I can at least watch the Pakistan-Windies and Pakistan-India games relatively guilt-free. Anyways, since I don't have a real post, I thought I'd post the Keita goal against Atletico Madrid from the weekend.

Every week Messi does something I've never seen before. Every week.

Saw this match live. Crazy link-up play between Ibrahimovic and Messi for this eh? Personally I'm glad Ibrahimovic is doing well and repaying Pep's faith. Atletico's defending wasn't great but I think it was more a case of Barca being irresistable than Athletico having Pablo at the back.

Ok, a bit harsh to single him out but he didn't do himself many favours from what I saw. (Half an hour or so before I realised the game was over).

Hey, howsabout putting up David Villa's second v Sporting Gijon from yesterday? That was pretty special too.

Ibra played his best game in a Barca uniform. It was the first time I saw him go all out in pressuring the backline and goalie of the opposition, which is what a number 9 has to do in Pep's system. His goal was sublime (easily better than the Villa goal you mention). Frankly, I still don't know what exactly he did and I've watched the replay about 10 times.

thoroughly enjoyable hampered only by the idiot commentators with their retarded metaphors.

adeel - that crazy american commentator was the best i've ever heard. he had already climaxed when the video starts, so by the time messi did his divine stuff, you could see how he was trying to clean up and keep commentating at the same time. "genius, magic, stardust (etc etc) littered all over the feild"

his verbal twists matched messi move for move

Haha, you guys should stop hating on Ray-Ray. He's thoroughly enjoyable. Ok, he gets carried away at times, but anyone who enjoys football that much while commentating is ok in my book. (Also, he's English, not American).

He always has these weird phrases and metaphors (my favorite was following a Messi goal last year, when a teammate had made himself available but God chose to not pass, Ray said "He needs help like a fish needs a bicycle"). There's a collection of them here:

Good goal, but damn, Atletico are just dismal defensively. It's like tackling is an afterthought to them.
