No Title For This Post
I have wavered for about ten days on the question of whether to write a post on my brother's death. I have decided against it for now, mainly because of privacy issues. I may write a post restricted to friends and family members, but then that's basically a Facebook note, so I may as well write it there. I have so many things to say, but I think it would all come out as jibberish were I to write it now, so I'll wait a while on that front.
I would advise, though, to go read Oba's tribute to Asim. It's the best one I've read anywhere. He also has a bunch of links to other tributes and some images of Asim's art.

Ahsan,
Let me be the first to offer my deepest condolences. Losing someone as close as that is a shock that no one can ever be prepared for no matter what the circumstance. Having lost my own father at a young age, I understand, what it means to lose someone.
I remember seeing the eject sign pictures in newspapers when the lawyers' movement was going on.
It is my ignorance of Pakistan that resulted in my knowing your brother in death alone but from what I gathered from the tributes and blog postings from all over, Asim was a man who truly LIVED his life in a short span.
May he rest in peace and may God give you and your parents the strength to carry on.
Innah Lillah-e-Wa Inna Elayh-e-rajeeon.
Dear Ahsan,
First of all, my deepest and most sincere condolences to you and your family on this tragic loss.
May your brother rest in eternal peace, and may the Almighty bless you and your family with the strength, courage, wisdom and will to bear this loss.
Having lost my own parents at a relatively early age, I can relate to your feelings, even though I know that only you can understand them.
I never knew Asim, but after reading about him, I wish I did.
Warm regards,
FJ
My sincere condolences to you and your family.
Just reading about him and seeing his vibrant smile in pictures..made me wish he was still among us.
May Allah grant him eternal peace and forgive his sins. And give your parents the strength to deal with this tragedy. Ameen

Thanks to everyone for their messages of support and condolences (not just on this post, but on a couple of others too).
ahsan,
deepest condolences on your loss. i have been hearing about you from my sister (former columbia grad) and i started reading this blog on her insistence. again, in this time of loss, i pray that your brother be forgiven and his few minor sins washed clean, and that he be granted a lasting presence in the Garden. we hear from our parents as we grow up the stories of people passing away, and often forget our own mortality. this is simply a fact of life. i am sure that your brother is in a much better state than we are. i pray that God grant you and your family the patience necessary to deal with this tremendous loss.
finally, the Prophet (pbuh) said "To Allah belongs what He took, and to Him belongs what He gave. Everything is recorded with Him for an appointed term." peace,
Ahsan, I'm so sorry to hear this. I had no idea he was your brother. You must be so proud of the life he lived.
