And The Dumb Shall Inherit The Punjab
There is something a bit disconcerting about having leaders who sort of fumble their way through things, not really knowing what they are supposed to do next, or indeed if they are supposed to do anything at all. Given Shahbaz Sharif’s reputation for firmness and competence, this comes as a (hilarious) surprise:
Then again, apparently the entire Punjab government is seemingly clueless:
But I guess if you don’t know what you are supposed to do or are too dumb to do it, then your masterly inaction will prevent any real damage from being done.
Believe it, Mian Shahbaz Sharif has asked the relevant officials to let him know his powers as the province’s chief minister.
The officials are studying the necessary books before writing a report for the boss. It’s not immediately known why the PML-N president had to ask this question when he has already held the office between 1997 and 1999.
Then again, apparently the entire Punjab government is seemingly clueless:
Finance Minister Tanveer Ashraf Kaira remained confused during his budget speech in the Punjab Assembly on Monday.
Kaira mispronounced several words during an hour-long written speech. The minister also added several ‘extra’ words to his speech, which were not part of the written text.
But I guess if you don’t know what you are supposed to do or are too dumb to do it, then your masterly inaction will prevent any real damage from being done.

The local government ordinances radically alter the relationship between the Chief Executive of a Province and the various departments decentralized and made offices during the past 7 years. The Police Order also changes the the police hierarchy and its connection to the province (technically, District Nazims are incharge of the police but this has lead to problems).
I think Shahbaz is trying to figure out how different the new system is. Remember, he wasn't around when the local government reform took place. I think the news item (despite it's misleading headline) indicates that Sharif is not going to scrap the PLGO and, instead, is going to work with the new administrative set up.
Anyway, I think that's a good idea. Then again, Sharif could just be checking.
That may be a logical way of looking at it but it sure is less fun than assuming Shahbaz is a dumbass.
True. But he doesn't inspire the imagination that way in real life. Not like his brother. You know, if you gave Nawaz a CD, he would easily spend five minutes playing with it and watching his reflection.
Nah, Shahbaz's reputation is more hardass. He's actually grudgingly appreciated by Punjabis. And the ladies swoon! Especially with that new hair.
Now, come to think of it: Isn't Tehmina Durrani the most powerful woman in ,..... well, just about anywhere. Wife of CM. Ex-wife of former Governor and (allegedly) had an affair with current Governor back in the 1990s. Amazing. Respect.
