While The Country's Biggest Tourist Attraction Goes Down In Flames

The tourism minister looks towards topless beaches for a solution

A Senate panel has asked the government to send the newly-inducted Tourism Minister, Maulana Attaur Rehman, on a visit to verdant beaches in South France and Switzerland to get innovative ideas of promoting the industry that contributes immensely to Pakistan’s economy...“Sir, you need to immediately visit St-Tropez and beaches in France as Pakistan has coastal areas that could be built on similar lines to attract foreign tourists,” Senator Enver Baig advised the minister. The proposal was readily endorsed by other participants of the meeting held on Wednesday.

shouldnt observing things in goa or the beaches in sri lanka make more sense?? this seems like a ploy to get the govt to pay for a maulana-style euro-trip...

Naqiya:

Dude, that needs to be our next (first?) blockbuster. We need a Pakistani "Euro Trip", with various Maulanas (maybe from different sects?) playing the lead roles.

Naqiya: I don't think Goa or Sri Lanks makes much sense either. Without alcohol, our beaches aren't going to attract the same people.

I'd also like to apologize to anyone who has left comments over the past month that I have not responded to. Something with the internet in Pakistan/gmail has been screwed up and I barely ever get alerts when someone leaves a comment. I'd just assumed people had stopped commenting on five rupees.

Enver Baig of the PPP [...] wondered how Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s brother could be expected either to promote the soft image of Pakistan or attract tourists.

I'm wondering that too. Is his brother as anal as Fazlur Rehman?

Maybe the Bureaucrats in the Ministry and the Senators just want him out of the country for a while, hoping that when he comes back he's a little less insane?

ahsan: yes, but only if you play one of the main characters!

bubs: i disagree, for two reasons: we have pot (which for many in goa is more attractive than booze, because they can get that anywhere in the rest of india. i know when i went which a bunch of goras pot was what they were most excited for), and i;m sure there would be some form of murree/indus brewery stuff available, just like it is in karachi.

Naqiya: I should have mentioned that, along with seeking inspiration from Europe, the tourist minister also wants to ban the sale of alcohol to foreigners.

Btw my knowledge of beaches is as follows: in Europe women are topless; Arthur C. Clarke lived in a Sri Lankan beach and Goa is pretty damn hedonistic. So really, I have no clue what we can do to attract more tourists to our beaches.

I guess our tourism minister could also check out the Caribbean beaches and report on those. That, in addition to his French and Swiss trips, should keep him out of the country for about six months or so.
