Meera: The Interviewer

SM recently forwarded me a short clip featuring Meera and Tapu Javeri that is currently doing the rounds on the interweb. Its titled "Meera The English Guru" and as can be be expected its purpose is to have a laugh at the expense of Meera who has a strange, overwhelming desire to speak in English, a language she is entirely incapable of speaking. Here's the clip:

The clip is borderline funny but not really hilarious, what is startling though is the manner in which the producers are exploiting the situation by making her speak in English, at one point near the end Meera even says that "yay meray say nahin hoga." Like I said earlier, one can laugh at Meera's expense because she puts herself in compromising situations and craves attention like nobody's business. But what cannot, and should not be tolerated is the role played by television producers in exploiting these shortcomings - I understand that exploitation is prevalent throughout the world, but that doesn't mean it should be so readily accepted. As it is, despite the strides made in recent years, its still not easy for women to be part of the media or entertainment sector and when producers start exploiting them then it makes it even harder for this to change.

All said, I love Tapu Javeri's nonchalance throughout the clip.

I really have no idea how Tapu managed to not laugh throughout the whole thing.

Oh stop with the holier than thou attitude AKS

That's sadistic.

Ahsan said...

Yeah thanks for this AKS. I didn't find this funny at all -- it was just mean.

It was in absolutely bad taste. The latest on the local telly channel is that she has moved to Canada

Good God. This was cringeworthy and not funny at all.

The man was not so much nonchalant as rude and indifferent.

I feel a bit bad for the woman. English is not inherently better thn any other language, but has become privileged in postcolonial societies like Pakistan. She has some sort of insecurity and I think the man should have helped her instead of ignoring her like that.

I agree. This whole Meera-driven videos on youtube are extremely cringe worthy and really dont say much about our general population.
The titles on their own are the worst. "Meera, The English Guru'', 'Meera kissing'', "Meera Kiss Boyfriend'. "Meera Scandal xxxx"

Sad, sad affair.

Poor Meera! :S

Well thanks to Annie's comment, we're going to get a bunch of hornball google searches leading to our blog now.

Also, you'd have to be a pretty dickish sort of person to have released this video given it was meant to be off-air.

Leave Meera alone you assholes.

you really wonder about the show's producer. all he got out of it was material for a youtube video - if they put this on air their own channel would be a joke. so why go through all the effort?

but while everyone here is being all politically correct, please remember the millions of times all of us have laughed at people's accents or grammar. like all blog comments, the ones here are written with the awareness that someone will be reading them, so everyone is careful to make themselves sound as humane/intelligent/compassionate as possible.

come on, didn't you love making fun of your fake accented, grammatically inept, totally clueless geography teacer/PT instructor/bleached blond girl at some time?

(and just for you ahsan: hot meera sex video, meera sexing, tapu javeri naked, tapu javeri scandal, meera javeri, tapu meera kiss, sex, sexy, lick, kiss, fuck, underage, erotic, desi girls, pakistani actress, sex)

Lol @ karachi khatmal :D

KK:

I have to say, that's the first time I've ever heard the theory that people are MORE civil on the internet with blog comments than they would be in real life.

Also, you said "sex" twice.

karachikhatmal said...

no no i have to qualify that statement. i didn't mean all blog comments were civil on the internet.

i meant all comments are written with the awareness that they would be read, and the reader will make a judgement on the author based on the comment alone. so in this case, everyone tries their best to sound very concerned and frown upon the cruelty of the video.i'm not doubting that people got offended, but considering that making fun of people's english and their accents is a pakistani staple, i am surprised that everyone seemed to find the joke in bad taste.

and yes, the second "sex" was left there to ensure that none of the horny trolls missed out on all the MEERA SEX VIDEO action available here. you should thank me, those google ads are going ka-ching as we write.

This is hilarious. Nothing mean or offensive really. Its her choice, I don't find her insecurity cute at all.

and btw, I have got dozens of friends who can't frame a single sentence of english correctly and we have the most amazing times together.

I don't get why everyone here feels the need to be so politically correct. Meera brings these situations upon herself. I feel no sympathy towards her. She loves all this drama around her and i feel like she puts herself in these situations for bullshit publicity.

adeel said...

Well, I couldn't bear watching this past the first 20 secs... more out of embarrassment, I think, rather than out of feeling sorry for merra.

So, is it meera's fault that she puts herself in these situations knowing her weakness (assuming she does know it) or is it the producers who have discovered the 'formula' to get the most bang for their buck? I can't quite put my finger on which it is, but why is this such a big deal that everyone's talking about it? I remember KK doing a post on why Paris sells more than the Pope. Perhaps, the same psychology is at work here.

And I'd volunteer to agree with KK on his theory that people make an effort to sound coherent when posting a comment. hell, I spent a ridiculous amount of time coming up with this crap.

"There’s a self-satisfied air in the re-telling of Meera’s misfortune, a sense of justice that an upstart of dodgy origins, who flaunts her new money and her outrageously large Versace glasses, should be brought down a peg. The unsubstantiated suggestion lingers that some of her newly acquired wealth may have come from the world’s oldest profession."

She was trying so hard, and she knew she couldn't do it. We are such ass holes as a collective, why must English be so important and not being able to converse in English such a crime? We have such a serious identity crisis.

She may put herself in these situations but it was fun when she said something wierd during her ad hoc interviews or something but this is just making fun of her for not being able to speak a foreign language

zeyd said...

Yeah I got no sympathy for her either. Sure, the producers are douchebags for mocking and taking advantage of her like that, but Meera? She's the chick who spelled out her email address on tv.

Tart, and that too an attention seeking one.
