Could Religion Have Played A Role In The Younus Saga?
As reports come in of Inzamam playing a major part in the ouster of Younus I am reminded of the time when Younus was seen as the anti-Inzamam: he was energetic, confident and media savvy. He also didn't have a beard and would not be waking the team up at 3 a.m. before an important world cup match so that they could offer Tahajjud prayers.
Could it be that Younus' lack of religiosity resulted in him losing control of a rather religious team?
Or it could be a result of him being a Karachiite who spoke his mind, that might not have gone down well with the Punjabi lobby?
What do you guys think?

Religion could be an angle looking at the new fall guy they have appointed. However, I still fail to understand. Pakistan performed exceptionally under Younus's command in T20 WC and then reached the semis in the Champions trophy. What are the players complaining & revolting about?
I think once again Pakistan cricket has shot itself in the foot.

By the looks of it, Younis is just a poor peoples manager..a leader will always have dissenters, no matter how high performing he is..
"I feel like I have lost command"..just doesn't cut it for great leaders...
I'm preparing a post on Younis. I don't think religion was a direct cause. I just think the team was divided, and that one of the many things that divided the team was different cultures.
I wish I could reveal what I know about this but sadly I cannot. Suffice it to say blaming this on Younis in the SLIGHTEST bit is stupid and ill-informed.

I don't think religion has anything to do with this particular instance, but I'm struggling to understand why so many Pakistani cricket fans dislike Younis Khan? The team is riven with internal divisions, has barely played any cricket at home over the last few years, and on top of that, has to put up with a dysfunctional board and sports ministry. With that context, Younis Khan has done a fine job. I really do wonder if there is any truth to this "Punjab lobby" that wants to get rid of Younis Khan.

imo an investigative report on the tablighi/multan connection within the team by someone a bit more credible than amir mir is long overdue.
i don't think religion was the main issue. wasn't the anti-younus player lobby complaining about him being too "strict"? *cough*lazyyousuf*cough* i wish the tableeghis would stay out of cricket and go to waziristan where they're needed, though. the only thing worse than yousuf as captain can be inzi as our coach.

What gave you the idea that I was blasting religion? Pointing out that one of the things that MAY have isolated Younus could be the difference in religious views, or maybe denied Younus the opportunity of getting closer to the team, doesn't mean I'm blasting religion.

I had the impression that there weren't that many divisions in the team, by the end of his tenure all the players seem to be united against Younus.

The rumour I've heard is that the entire team decided to throw their wickets away so that Younus would be kicked out. I guess Aamir and Ajmal weren't part of the plan.

I believe it's simply Younus' popularity decline among the players plus, ok, a little bit of lobbying. But lobbying along ethnic or religious lines, that's utterly ridiculous.
As for those who think Yousaf was named the new captain because religion had something to do it, well....isn't he a better choice than Younis anyway? Popular, uncontroversial and far better player ;)
